Continuing Education

We are fortunate to have the support of the Association for Continuing Education (ACE), which supports our continuing education program at Oakland International High School. This program serves many of our 5th year seniors and adult family members.
Continuing education is a real need for our students and their families--many of our students arrive years behind grade level because war, ethnic conflict, or extreme poverty caused severe interruptions to their formal educations. As a result, these students (and their families) often need additional support in the form of continued access to high school education, technology, and English instruction beyond what traditional high schools can offer.
The 5th Year Continuing Education program at OIHS provides students with an additional year of study to learn English, pass the high school exit exam, and earn the credits they need to graduate from high school. At the ACE College and Career Center, students’ families are supported in their acquisition of English and technology skills.  In addition, 5th year seniors and 12th grade students participate in an internship program, which is focused on career readiness and exploration, preparation for higher education and authentic English practice in the workplace.

Rosetta Stone American English Curriculum
Learning English is vital to students and their parents at OIHS.  ACE’s partnership provides a web-based Rosetta Stone American English license to the school for their students and parent ESL classes.  This mobility allows all students to continue learning English from any computer or mobile device at home or school.  ACE also provides USB headsets for OIHS’s campus computer labs.
